Hope was in fourth grade and we elected to transfer her to Newland Elementary School. She was a bit anxious about her first day at a new school, but being Hope, it didn't last long and she slipped directly into her new class room and surveyed the situation. She waved good by and smiled her smile and that was it.
When she came home that day I couldn't wait to find out about her adventure. She shared all kinds of exciting tales of new friends, new text books and new teachers.
And then she became quite serious. She looked at me with an expression of reverence and honor and said "Mom, Jesus goes to our school." At first I was not comprehending what she was saying and then the spark of understanding ignited.
Hope had several hispanic kids at her school and "Jesus" was one of their names.

SPROUTS
Sprouts has become my new favorite grocery store. It has everything a healthy family could want at remarkably reasonable prices. Truly. I was skeptical on my first trip but have been beckoned to the greener side of life.
Several of my favorite new finds are vanilla coconut milk, vegetable chips (bulk), blueberry bars, ancient grain bread, honey almond butter, every kind of salted nut (bulk) and of course all of the yummy fruits and veggies. I love spending time just reading labels and pondering new ideas for meals. WOW, this is so not me about 2 months ago. The 28 day eating plan must be altering my brain cells.
COSTCO has a new rival and it's name is Sprouts.
If you haven't made a trip to Sprouts, just do it.

2010 OLYMPICS
We are a complete Olympics lover family. The fam was so fortunate in 2002 to be able to attend the festivities in Salt Lake City. The atmosphere is like no other athletic event. It is patriotic on so many levels that it is hard to capture the emotions that it evokes. Leave it to say that it is jaw dropping marvelous.
2002 brought with it a fashion icon. The coveted tam worn by the Olympians at the Opening Ceremonies. Those little navy blue head coverings, brought to the games by Roots were, indeed hard to find. But the Roderick's are born to find the most elusive fashion gear imaginable and we, in the true spirit of the games, would not be beat.
We went directly to the Roots Store in Park City and began our search. We waited in line for 2 hours and were able to purchase 2 tams each at $20.00 a pop. What a proud moment in Roderick history. USA, USA, USA.
2010 will prove to be a little more challenging as we are not able to travel to VanCouver. So we have sent our personal envoy to represent our clan. Kelsey is there this weekend and she is cheering our USA team on to victory. Her side bar assignment is to once again score the adorable head piece that our athletes are sporting. Ralph Lauren designed the knitted beanie and I want one so that I may copy the pattern. Go Kelsey and the USA!
Good luck honey, I just checked ebay and the beanies are selling for about $400.00 each.

JUST SO YOU KNOW
The 28 day plan has been a challenge and a benefit. We are all eating much more healthful and we are eating at home almost exclusively which is proving to be beneficial to our spending plan.
Addison has found it a little more difficult because of her limited diet, but she is trying. Shae has found it easy since she was already a vegetarian. Hope has found it hard, but is enjoying the results. She has lost several pounds and is running track. Scott and I are loving the new recipes. In fact, Scott is cooking more than me and he is very good at it.
All in all, as the experiment nears it's end we have to admit it has been a wild and wonderful ride and we will continue to try to maintain the healthy habits we have implemented.

WIND
I love to go to bed early and read, every night, since we've been married. Scott seems to forget this and in a very sarcastic way, shows me his annoyance with my activity.
He comes to bed, sighs, and puts on this red eye mask so he can sleep. He claims he can not sleep while I read because of the light. Right.
Scott also has a hearing thing. He is always asking me to repeat what people say . . . movies, seminars, dinners. I get tired of it and I suggest he get those ears checked out.
Last night when he came to bed the wind was howling outside and the rain was gently falling. He gets in bed and performs his ritual. I ask in a serious tone "Can you hear that wind? It must be coming down out there." He looks at me with one side of the eye mask pulled up and says "What wind?" He can't sleep with the light on but noise doesn't bother him. It didn't make sense to me.
He replaced his mask and turned over as I purposely mumbled. He rips off his mask and says "I can understand you. You are trying to punk me." I was and he didn't bite.
No more guilt for me. You can hear and you can sleep with the light on dear.

GROWL
Dakota and I are watching TV on the couch and she starts this low growl, doesn't even lift her head. I calmly tell her to be quiet and she complies for a few seconds and then starts growling again. I listen and look and can't discovered anything that should be encouraging this behavior. I continue watching TV and once again she starts. I finally understand what is annoying her.
Under the lounge chair on the living room floor is the bane of her existence. It is her small stuffed bunny.
She hates that thing.

SEVEN
The first seven days of our new lifestyle in eating has been interesting. I shopped at "Sprouts" last week for the first time ever and I loved it. I need not shop anywhere else during these next 21 days. They have all the we need.
This next seven days we try to eliminate dairy, poultry and eggs. This is going to be tricky because we are all milk drinkers and cheese consumers.
Scott has been researching all the recipes and has come up with some keepers. One item we have discovered is almond butter and apples. We have been seizing those treats by the scores. Everyone loves them.
There were only 2 Roderick's who broke the eating rules last week. Can you guess who?
