JESUS

Hope was in fourth grade and we elected to transfer her to Newland Elementary School. She was a bit anxious about her first day at a new school, but being Hope, it didn't last long and she slipped directly into her new class room and surveyed the situation. She waved good by and smiled her smile and that was it.

When she came home that day I couldn't wait to find out about her adventure. She shared all kinds of exciting tales of new friends, new text books and new teachers.

And then she became quite serious. She looked at me with an expression of reverence and honor and said "Mom, Jesus goes to our school." At first I was not comprehending what she was saying and then the spark of understanding ignited.

Hope had several hispanic kids at her school and "Jesus" was one of their names.
